Leadership and Personal Growth in Organization

I just had a really great conversation with my workmate regarding the real definition of Personal Growth. What do you think first when you hear about the growth? is it the training? ah, I guess it’s just the supporting thing. So, what comes first?

Let me ask you 2 questions first

Have you ever been in a position that you only had 1 year but you’re feeling like you’re getting bigger from A to D while in another place, you got 3 years but all you got is only A to B? I used to think that time and growth are having a positive linear relationship, as I always believe in experience, yes I believe in art, but that “looks simple” theory isn’t always working. So what is the big thing that influences this?

Have you ever heard that a great leader with just so so a soldier is better than a bad leader with a genius soldier? yes, I couldn’t agree more.

Let’s imagine the extreme case. Let’s pretend that you lead a for-profit organization, you’ll need a finance and marketing role in this organization. But when you put the marketing person, that usually not that detail-oriented, business-minded, creative in the finance role and vice versa, can you imagine that mess? What will happen next? yes, I guess it’s simply won’t have a long run.

Maybe, this case is too extreme, maybe let’s have a little bit more similar role, maybe between the engineering and product development role. Maybe some of you will think that it could be a challenge and it would be very nice if that engineering person is also able to develop the product and have full responsibility for it? but it sounds crazy to me, let me tell you an interesting opinion about it, stop being the person that you’re not.

Why? Because it’ll be painful, doing the thing that you don’t enjoy every day when it’s feeling so hard for you to continue the daily work, how is it possible for you to receive the new training that you actually don’t have an interest in it? Even when you bring a great result, are you satisfy with that thing? are you satisfied being “the great another person”? the satisfaction will never be the same when you achieve “the great you”? Leadership plays a great role in this, in my opinion, the great leader is the one who can bring personal growth for each individual on their team, and personal growth itself is putting the right person in the right role, let them overcome, improvise, and satisfied in what they did, so they will understand their role. This sense won’t come in an instant way, this is built-in day to day.

Why is this important? Why understanding that somebody is important is a great deal? Alright, a large amount of benefit may be cool, but a lot of organizations can offer that one easily, so what’s rare?
That satisfaction, that self-actualization. The addiction to personal growth (that will influence the organization's growth).

The most win-win thing for the organization and employee.
